A new smile just in time for Shyam

Shyam was three years old when he got his life-changing surgery. Although he was fortunate to have grown up in a community where there was no malice towards his cleft, many children with untreated cleft conditions experience painful bullying and social isolation.

That’s why, in an ideal world, cleft repair surgery should happen during the first year of a child’s life. It’s why we strive to reach children like Shyam sooner, before they experience the emotional scars of being rejected by peers.

Thankfully Shyam’s parents, Rakhi and Milton, found out about Operation Smile from a local doctor, who told them about a forthcoming patient recruitment programme in Murarai, India. They were comforted to see other families in the same situation, and elated to discover Shyam could have free, safe surgery to repair his cleft lip.

Will you transform a child’s life today?

Thanks to the kindness of people like you, Shyam’s now a happy and energetic seven-year-old with a brand-new smile. But thousands of children like him are still waiting. Your donation today really can transform lives.

Please give whatever you can today! Thank you
