At Operation Smile we believe that every child has the right to the same start in life as any other. In as little as 45 minutes we can make a difference. A gift in your will can support our ongoing work providing cleft lip and cleft palate operations in over 60 countries.
Your legacy will help fund projects which otherwise may take many years to complete – a gift to Operation Smile is a gift to the many children still waiting for surgery.
HOW TO LEAVE A GIFT IN YOUR WILL
We know that your family and friends are your priority. However, after making provision for them please consider supporting Operation Smile in your Will.
It is easy to leave a legacy whether making your first will or updating an existing will.
Whichever way you may choose to make or update your Will it is important that you include our full name. Therefore, please specify that you are leaving your gift to ‘Operation Smile United Kingdom, Registered Charity No: 1091316.’
Leaving a charity legacy to Operation Smile is a wonderful way to ensure that future generations of children around the world continue to receive life changing surgery. Whatever its size, your gift really can make a big difference and any legacy you leave to Operation Smile will be exempt from inheritance tax.
If you already have a will you can include a legacy to Operation Smile by making a simple addition to your will (called a codicil). This should be straightforward and relatively inexpensive to arrange through your solicitor or will writer.
If you don’t yet have a will making a will is not difficult. It ensures you protect your loved ones and allows you to support causes you believe in. You can also use your will to appoint guardians for any minor children and set out your wishes for a funeral or service of remembrance.
CONTACT A SOLICITOR OR A PROFESSIONAL WILL WRITER
You can find a solicitor in your area through the Law Society. Alternately, you could contact the Institute of Professional Will writers.
Some solicitors and insurance companies also offer a Free Will Service.
TYPES OF LEGACIES
Please be aware that there are different types of legacies. Your solicitor will be able to help and advise you on which one would be best for you.
A gift of a percentage of your estate (residuary legacy) will usually make the biggest difference to us allowing us to help more children; it will keep its value better than a fixed sum of money (pecuniary legacy). This is also an easy way to provide for the causes that are important to you after loved ones have been looked after in your will.
It is easy to leave a gift in your will but if you have any queries do not hesitate to discuss them with our Legacy Manager, Pippa Fawcett. You can contact her by phone on 020 3475 5126 or by email on email@example.com

Your legacy will make a lasting contribution to our long-term success and the lives of those that benefit from your gift.
After making or updating your will please do not forget to let know that you have included us in your will. We would like to thank you.
A gift to a registered charity in your will is generally exempt from inheritance tax. A gift to Operation Smile UK in your will is tax free for us and in some circumstances could reduce the amount of inheritance tax your loved ones are liable for. If you would like more information please see the HMRC website.
