Hillingdon Novice triathlon Success

Congratulations Charlie and Lily Johnson from everyone at #TeamOperation. Charlie and Lily are the youngest ever Operation Smile Triathlon competitors - completing a 150 metre swim, a 1.6 kilometre cycle, and a 1 kilometre run, raising over £500 for Operation Smile. It was tough going for Charlie on the swimming but Lily and Charlie both finished with no complaints. We are all extremely proud of their willingness to participate taking it all in their stride. A HUGE thank you to Charlie and Lily - we cannot wait to hear what you have planned next! #SuperStars.

Since the event, Charlie and Lily wrote to us:

I had a great day doing the Hillingdon Novice triathlon. Before the event I was very nervous as it was my first time, but felt better after seeing the younger group do their event beforehand. As I got into the water I had butterflies in my stomach of excitement. Once I started I knew I had to complete it all especially as all our friend and family had sponsored us so I didn’t want to let them down. I was pleased to have completed the event as it was harder than expected but pleased I managed to do it without stopping. Swimming was my hardest event followed by cycling so by the time I did what I am best at I was quite tired!. I hope to do an event again to raise money for Operation Smile and maybe it will be with my younger brother Jamie. Charlie Johnson Age 10

I have previously completed two triathlons but this year the distance was longer as I was now in a older age group. My brother Charlie was also doing the event with me and it was his first time. My brother Charlie is a good runner so I had to make sure I did well in swimming and cycling otherwise Charlie would beat me!, thankfully I did beat my younger brother but am pleased and proud he had the courage to do it with me. I was pleased to have completed the event and hope to continue supporting Operation Smile as long as I can. Lily Johnson Age 13
